ARCH 445: Urban Morphology

“Urbanity is not so mysterious. Good space is used space”. Bill Hillier (Hillier, 1996)

This course is delivered through lectures, seminars, directed reading, computer assisted learning, case studies and experimental learning, research-based teaching materials and methods, problem-based learning scenarios including coursework assignments, and projects. Exposure to the urban morphology environment and related projects are an important aspect of the teaching and learning methods.

In this project, the students were required to analyse the urban corridor of Bechara El Khoury street in Tripoli. Their analysis included urban form using space syntax, figure ground theory, and field survey, including gate system analysis for pedestrian and vehicles’ densities.
